  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 tablespoon cherry juice (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (for frosting)
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
  • Red decorating sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons water (if needed)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, salt, and ground almonds; then mix with wet ingredients.
  4. Form cookie dough by placing a halved cherry in the center and folding the dough around it.
  5. Place on parchment-lined baking sheets and flatten slightly.
  6. Bake for 8-9 minutes until edges are golden brown; cool on wire racks.
  7. Prepare frosting by mixing powdered sugar with cherry juice and almond extract; add milk for desired consistency.
