  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
  • 4 cups peeled, chopped fresh apples
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for apple filling)
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Reserve 1½ cups for topping.
  3. Press the remaining mixture into the pan and bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. For the apple filling, toss chopped apples with cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and spices in another bowl. Let sit for a few minutes.
  5. Spread the apple mixture over the baked crust and sprinkle reserved crumbs on top.
  6. Bake again for 30–35 minutes until topping is golden and apples are bubbly.
  7. Allow to cool completely before slicing.
