Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups apples (cored, peeled, and chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 14 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into pieces)

Instructions

  1. Melt unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped apples, light brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, water, and salt. Cook for 5–7 minutes until apples soften slightly. Remove from heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well. Add cold unsalted butter pieces and blend until crumbly.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan. Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the pan to form an even layer. Spread the apple filling evenly over this base and sprinkle remaining oat mixture on top.
  4. Bake for about 40-50 minutes until golden brown on top. Allow cooling completely before slicing into bars.
