Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large onion (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 lb (450 g) beef (thinly sliced, e.g., flank steak or sirloin)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (mixed with 2 tablespoons water)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Green onions (sliced, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain and marinate with soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper for 15–20 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry marinated beef in batches for 1–2 minutes until browned. Remove from the wok.
  3. In the same pan, add sliced onions and cook for 2–3 minutes until caramelized.
  4. Add minced garlic to the onions and stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Return the cooked beef to the pan.
  5. Pour in remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and cornstarch slurry; stir until thickened.
  6. Garnish with green onions before serving hot over steamed rice or noodles.
