  2. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat; sauté garlic until fragrant. Stir in flour to create a roux, then gradually whisk in chicken broth until thickened. Add cream if desired; season to taste.
  3. Boil potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with milk and cheddar cheese until creamy; season as needed.
  4. Serve mashed potatoes topped with sliced chicken and garlic gravy.
