- 1/4 cup Dutch cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup sweetener (sugar, pure maple syrup, erythritol, or honey)
- 1/2 cup milk of choice + 3 tbsp cornstarch
- Optional: 3 oz chocolate chips or broken-up bar
- 3/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the milk, salt, cocoa powder, and sweetener. Warm over medium heat while stirring.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the additional milk and cornstarch until smooth.
- Once the milk mixture is warm, gradually add the cornstarch mixture while stirring constantly. Bring to a boil for about 2 minutes.
- Lower the heat and simmer for an additional minute before removing from heat.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and optional chocolate pieces until melted.
- Transfer to a refrigerator-safe container and chill until thickened.
