Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup cold whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup chocolate batons or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Gradually mix in cold milk until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead lightly on a floured surface until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle and laminate with softened butter. Fold over like a book.
  4. Roll out again and fold into thirds. Chill for another 30 minutes, repeating twice more to create flaky layers.
  5. Roll final dough into a large rectangle, cut into triangles, place chocolate at the base, and roll up into croissant shapes.
  6. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), brush with egg wash, bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
